In Room 8 this term we have working on writing narratives and writing Myths and Legends. Here are some the children have written:

Long long long long time ago there was a boy named Daniel his friend was Maui wanted to go to war but daniel said do not go to war because you might get killed and I have to get a new friend . Firstly maui could not go to war because the sun keep going faster and faster and the days keep going faster and faster. Then maui turn into a taniwha and he set his alarm to let his friend know his alarm is maui time named Tangaroa was a witch .Tangaroa lives up top the mountain and maui lives underwater so they both came up with the name underwater mountain .Daniel wanted maui back because he had no one to sleep
So daniel had to sleep with his mom when he was even 21 years old so daniel did not see maui again.

How aurora became
Long ago in the land of Aotearoaa baby girl was born Her mother and father named her Titirangi. As she grew she was a kind hearted girl.

A couple of years later Titirangi was five years old. One day Titirangi went for a walk in the forest. As she roamed she roamed she found a blue flower, a green flower, a magenta flower, and a orange flower. They were as beautiful as a rainbow. Titirangi took each flower and put them into separate vases. Everyday she would water and watch the flowers.

Titirangi was 7 years old and still the blue flower, green, magenta and orange were still beautiful. Then one day when Titirangi came back from a walk in the forest her flowers were gone. Titirangi searched and searched for her beloved flowers but she didn’t find them. Titirangi was as sad as a ghost. She cried and cried. Titirangi told her mother and started to ask the village but nothing.
Titirangi woke up sad and angry. Before she ate her breakfast she did a karakia for her flowers to come back. When Titirangi said amen tears came running down her cheeks. She ate her breakfast and went for a nap.

Finally Titirangi woke up from a loud noise outside. She went over and saw her village celebrating. When Titirangi looked at the sky the colours from the flowers were spread across the sky. Titirangi knew those were her beloved flowers.

From then Titirangi called the colours the Aurora. Sometimes it would visit Titirangi. And that’s how Aurora became!
